Ms. Hershenov is Of Counsel to the firm.
From 2005-2015 Ms. Hershenov served as Vice President and General Counsel for Consumers Union, the not-for-profit publisher of Consumer Reports magazine and ConsumerReports.org, and the world’s largest independent consumer protection, product testing and publishing organization. Her work focused on media law, technology transactions, IP, not-for-profit law and governance, and privacy and cyber-security. Ms. Hershenov and her team also worked closely with federal and state executive agencies. From 1994-2005, Ms. Hershenov worked at the Open Society Foundations, where she served as the General Counsel to the global foundation network founded by philanthropist and financier George Soros. Supervising the legal work of the foundations in close to 40 countries across the globe, particularly in Eastern and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union, Ms. Hershenov also served from 1994-2007 as the founding general counsel for the Central European University, a New York State-chartered university with a principal campus in Budapest, Hungary.
Before going to the Open Society Foundations, Ms. Hershenov worked as a litigation associate in the New York office of Morrison & Foerster, handling patent, antitrust and general business litigation, as well representing the American Civil Liberties Union and the NOW Legal Defense Fund pro bono. A graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, she began her legal career clerking for Judge Jack B. Weinstein in the Eastern District of New York, and then joined the ACLU as a Karpatkin Fellow, where she litigated civil rights and civil liberties cases.
Ms. Hershenov has taught and lectured on media law, not-for-profit law, the Internet of Things, and privacy and cyber-security law. She currently serves on the board of the Appleseed Foundation.
